Privacy policy
We collect only what we need to help you meet someone at a public place, keep people safe and pay hosts. We never sell your information.
Who we are
Kinspeople is a platform for friendly, platonic plans at public places in the Greater Toronto Area. This policy explains how we handle personal information under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). It applies to our website, the app and early access.
What we collect
- Early access: your email, the area you're in and whether you want to hang out or host.
- Your account: your name, email, profile photo, the languages you speak and anything you choose to add to your profile.
- Hosts: your mobile number, which we check is a GTA mobile number, plus your activities and the public place each one happens at.
- Bookings: the activity, place, day, time and length, the agreements both people accepted and when, and the feedback you leave.
- Messages: the chat between you and a host or guest in the app.
- Payments: handled by our payment processor. We see the amount and status of a payment, not your full card number.
- Contact form: your name, email and message when you write to us.
- Technical information: a sign-in cookie, and basic logs like your browser, device and IP address, which keep the service working and secure.
Why we use it
- To run your account, show your profile and let you request or host activities.
- To check that hosts use a real GTA mobile number and that every activity is at a public place.
- To hold, charge and pay out bookings, and to send receipts.
- To keep people safe: review reports, look into rule breaks and close accounts that break the rules.
- To email you about early access, your bookings and important changes. You can unsubscribe from anything that isn't about a booking.
- To fix problems and improve Kinspeople.
We ask for your consent when you sign up, join early access or send a request. You can withdraw it at any time, though we may then be unable to provide some of the service.
Who we share it with
We never sell or rent your personal information. We share it only when we need to:
- The other person in a booking sees your first name, photo, profile and messages. Nobody sees your phone number or email.
- Service providers who work for us, like website hosting, payments, text message verification and email. They may use your information only to provide their service to us.
- The law: when required by law, or to protect someone's safety in an emergency.
Some providers may store information outside Canada, for example in the United States, where it is protected by contract but may be accessed under local law.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you close your account, we delete or anonymize it within 90 days, except what we must keep longer for payments, taxes, legal reasons or safety reports. Early access details are deleted when you unsubscribe.
How we protect it
We use encrypted connections, limit who on our team can see personal information and keep chat and payments inside the app. No system is perfectly secure, so if a breach puts you at real risk, we'll tell you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
Your choices and rights
- Ask to see the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct anything that is wrong.
- Close your account and ask us to delete your information.
- Unsubscribe from early access and other emails using the link in each email.
To make a request, use our contact form and choose “Privacy request”. We reply within 30 days.
Age
Kinspeople is only for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger.
Questions or complaints
Write to us through the contact form first and we'll do our best to help. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change is important, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
